Oyo: OPC Members Detained Over Invasion of Wakili’s Settlement Released

Three members of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, detained by the police over the arrest of suspected kidnappers’ Kingpin, Wakili Isikilu who was accused of terrorizing the people of Ibarapa land have just been released on Bail.

They were released from the police custody at Iyaganku police station around 5.40pm.

According to report, their release was as a result of intervention of the Oyo State government and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams.

The three detained OPC members were released in the presence of State Coordinator of Oodua People’s Congress in Oyo State, Comrade Rotimi Oguntunde a.k.a. Olumo, Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige and Opc Lawyer.

Recall that the Oyo State Police Command has accused some members of OPC who invaded Wakili’s settlement of arson and alleged murder of a woman.

Oyo state commissioner of police, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko urged the residents of the communities and other stakeholders not to give ethnic colouration into fracas between the herders and farmers in the state.

She said: “I keep telling you to stop giving ethnic colouration to crime. The question is this, was there any crime committed? It is not a question of whether they were Yoruba and Ibos.

“They had been trying to arrest Wakili. They said they arrested Wakili and two others. But the issue is that as the OPC people left, they set the camp on fire and shot a woman on her stomach. Her intestine gushed out and the woman died. That was basically what happened on Sunday.

“My appeal is that we should all come together to fight crime. Give us credible information. Anybody who has complaint against Wakili, this is the best time to lodge complaints so that he can be investigated. Wakili is in the custody.”
