Three young men have been reported killed in Umuezeala community in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, following a disagreement over N50 bet at the weekend.
The incident occurred on Friday evening at Aba branch satellite market near the Ehime Mbano council headquarters.
The Nation learnt one Chidubem Mbamara walked into a Bet9aija shop in the area and placed bet worth N600.
He was said to have paid only N150 and deposited his phone to get the balance.
But on return, he reportedly paid additional N400, making it a total deposit of N550 while promising to pay a balance of N50 on a later date.
Mbamara was also said to have appealed to the manager of the shop, one Henry Obi, to give him his phone so he could pay his N50 debt on a later date.
This however did not go down well with the manager, who insisted his money must be completed for Mbamara to retrieve his phone.
He was said to have argued most bet customers had made away with his money in similar circumstances.
According to the villagers, while the manager remained hell bent on not releasing the phone, Mbamara insisted he must have it
The altercation generated by the argument led Mbamara to return some minutes with a locally made pistol with which he reportedly shot the manager.
Two other persons, Chibuike Iwunze and Ebuka, were said to have been hit by the bullets
The gunshots attracted a mob, which pounced on Mbamara and beat him to death.
While Obi and Ebuka were confirmed dead in the hospital on Saturday morning, Iwunze was said to in critical condition.
Commissioner of police, Nasiru Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
