Governor Makinde Approves Composition Of Oyo State Youth Parliament

In a bid to further give rooms for the resourceful youths in Oyo to actively participate in governance, Engr. Seyi Makinde has approved the composition of Oyo State Youth Parliament.

Makinde’s historic gesture was contained in a release signed by the media aide to the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kazeem Olalekan Israel, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede, on Friday.

The release stressed the commitment of the Governor towards youths inclusion in governance.

The release partly read: “The Governor has always shown commitment towards the youth’s cause, because, without including the youths in the government’s agenda, no development can be achieved. And Gov. Seyi Makinde believe that today was yesterday’s tomorrow, hence, he is against the statement that “the youths are the leaders of tomorrow”. So, he believes that the end of a matter can be judged by the happenings in the beginning, which is why he has been investing so much in the youths.

“It is based on the foregoing that the Governor wants to change the narrative whereby the only formal opportunity for the participation of the youths is recruitment into government’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies which gives employment opportunities to just little percent of the youth population. So, in giving better participatory role in the decision-making and policy implementation process in the State, the Governor has approved the reconstitution of the Oyo State Youth Parliament.”

The ministry highlighted that, engaging the youths through such initiative as the Oyo State Youth Parliament, will encourage them to take part in the governance and politics of the State.

The commissioner on his own part maintained that, “the parliament will make the youths have common objectives for strengthening nation-building programme.”
