The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede was, yesterday, at the Great Hall, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso to honour the invitation of the University management in discussing the objectives of Students’ Union in Universities.
The University management organised the programme as a leadership seminar to enlighten students as regards the role expected to be played by students’ body.
Media Aide to the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kazeem Olalekan Israel in a release made available to Vreporters noted that, the commissioner While delivering his lecture said, “the time is here and students must set to work without allowing anybody to run you down.”
His words, “a leader is a leader. You don’t act your age but the responsibility.” The Commissioner also noted the importance of including youths in governance, one objective he said “the Students’ Union serve in the larger community, beyond University walls.”
The Commissioner urged the students to channel a fresh path and that they should understand that election is not a do or die affair. The Commissioner maintained students must understand that education is important in this dispensation as it will prepare them for the task ahead because, “this generation is that of performance and result.” He also thanked the Governor of the State for maintaining the stance that every Commissioner for Youth and Sports coming in will be less than 30years of age.
The Commissioner later joined the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Students’ Union, Olamide Anthony Olabiyi to commission the Freedom Shed constructed by their administration.
He appreciates the thoughtfulness of the leadership of the caretaker committee. In his words, he said, “no one could have queried you if you had not done it. If you could be faithful to this little, it shows that you’d have performed better if you were to be given a bigger platform. This is a good representation of the youths.”
While commissioning the Shed and the pulpits which are to be distributed across lecture halls, the Commissioner said he appreciates the honour to commission the project on behalf of the committee to the greater populace of LAUTECH students.
Fakorede however rounded his journey off with a visit to the Soun Township Stadium which is being remodelled by the State Government where he reiterated the commitment of the Engr. Seyi Makinde-led administration towards sports and youths development in the State.
