Technology giant, Google has deleted home grown app, Crowwe built by Former Presidential candidate, Adamu Garba on play store.
The Crowwe app, which has been described as an instant messaging and financial transaction app that comes with a digital wallet that helps to transfer and receive money while chatting, has received worst reviews.
Following the announcement of Twitter ban by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the former presidential candidate presented the Crowwe app as an alternative to the microblogging website that can help “to grow Nigeria.”
“Join Crowwe now! Build your country, Build your people and Build your Brand. Join Crowwe now., Mr Garba tweeted
“This is the best opportunity to grow Nigeria to Build Nigeria, Crowwe to the World.”
He also expressed his excitement in an interview with Channels TV that the federal government has banned the operations of Twitter in the country.
Recall that Mr Garba had earlier called for a ban of the microblogging platform when it deleted president Buhari’s genocidal tweet.
“Twitter has no right to infuse into our local political affairs. It’s a company not a government. By removing our democratically elected President’s speech to the people of Nigeria, Twitter need to shut down from Nigerian internet space. Twitter need to get out of Nigeria,” he tweeted
The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Anderson Ezeibe has faulted the Federal Government’s position to upgrade some polytechnics to universities, saying such a plan particularly at this period is a misplaced priority.
He also said the establishment of new polytechnics by the government or granting of license to private operators for new ones is equally unnecessary at this time as the proliferation of polytechnics in the country according to him won’t translate to an automatic increment of access to polytechnic education by young Nigerians.
He said what is required and should be the priority of government at this time is to give deserved attention to the existing public polytechnics by adequately funding them and also providing them with requisite infrastructure and taking good care of the personnel.
Ezeibe gave this position in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Tribune, on Monday.
According to him, we the polytechnic lecturers are not carried away by the government upgrading one polytechnic or the other to university.
He said this was because that is not the major issue to the lecturers as far as polytechnic education is concerned in the country particularly at this time.
The main issue, he explained, is for government to look after the existing schools either polytechnics or universities or even primary or secondary schools.
He said it is obvious that the existing public schools across levels are not only suffering neglect but also dying and wonder why the need for new ones.
“So, let the government changes if it likes the name or status of one school to another many time, the problems will remain the same if proper attention is not given to such school,” he stressed.
While also asking the government to create enabling environment for private polytechnics to thrive and also plays their supervisory roles on them, Mr Ezeibe pointed out that there is nothing wrong if polytechnics are also allowed to award bachelor and master of technology degrees like the various universities of technology are doing.
He said after all the Act establishing polytechnics in the country makes provision for them to produce high-level manpower just as it is being produced by the universities, hence, the need to allow them to award degrees alongside OND and HND.
He said what would remain is for such polytechnics to use the federal universities of technology curriculum to train students for such programmes and also meet up with other requisite conditions.
Ezeibe however, noted that ASUP members had already returned to classrooms for academic activities following the suspension of their 65 days of industrial action.
He said they are ready to cope with academic works as may be stipulated by their respective managements.
President Jose Fonseca of Cape Verde has embarked upon another foreign trip which, if he were an aging rock star instead of a lame duck president, would be part of “The Legacy Tour”. He is fortunate that unlike many of his African counterparts he is leaving office later this year on his own terms and with some semblance of dignity.
One would like to say that he was going to leave behind a legacy of note but President Fonseca’s conspicuous inaction over the past year regarding the matter of Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab matter will cast a long shadow over his time as a public servant.
Jose Fonseca has shown no statesman-like qualities which, if rumours are to be believed, would be necessary for the alleged global role he craves with one of the UN agencies. A role that he might feel is his for the taking given the unstinting support he has given the United States in the way Cape Verde has detained Alex Saab and subjected him to systematic physical and psychological torture.
Over the past year, Jose Fonseca has not shown an ounce of compassion despite having had ample opportunity to intervene in Alex Saab’s case on humanitarian grounds alone, following direct appeals to him by the wife of Alex Saab. Quite which UN agency soon-to-be-ex-president Fonseca thinks is going to welcome someone who has turned a blind eye to human rights abuses and at the same time caved into political pressure remains to be seen. He is happy to duck difficult decisions and receive degrees and attend photo opportunities which will no doubt feature in the memoir that will be written from the comfort of a UN supplied chair in Geneva.
President Fonseca supposedly has no domestic political agenda. No promises to make to get himself elected. He is free of the constraints of political reality. Yet he has refused to use his status as “Defender of the Constitution” to neither defend the constitution of Cape Verde nor protect the good name of his country built by his predecessors in office.
What is perhaps most galling of all, is that having spent the last year disrespecting ECOWAS and the ECOWAS Court of Justice, President Fonseca, without an ounce of shame, is intent on attending the ECOWAS Heads of State summit this coming weekend in Ghana. No doubt he is expecting a round of farewell eulogies, bonne hommie and socially distanced backslapping and more nice photos for the book. Rumour has it that all may not be such smooth sailing for the aspiring UN dignitary.
Cape Verde’s two-faced attitude towards ECOWAS has seriously antagonised several other notable member states. A nation which throughout the history of ECOWAS has taken whatever the community has to give with both hands, yet has refused to give back anything when asked, should not be surprised to find itself at the receiving end of some diplomatically rough treatment.
A nation who has taken the politically motivated decision to consciously break international law, that risks creating a precedent which puts all diplomats and political agents in harm’s way and then tries to hide behind the skirts of a compliant judiciary cannot expect to be welcome amongst civilised nations. And nor should its lame duck President.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has slammed an 18-month ban on 45-year-old Nigeria’s Paralympic Powerlifting and Commonwealth champion, Roland Ezuruike.
Ezuruike, a Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medalist earned the wrath of the IPC for anti-doping violation.
He broke the Paralympic record in the men’s under-54 kilograms category at Rio 2016 when he lifted 200kg on his way to claiming gold.
According to a statement by the IPC, Ezuruike was found to have made two filing failures and missed a test between April 12, 2019 and March 9, 2020.
The IPC Anti-Doping Code rules state that “any combination of three missed tests and/or filing failures within a 12-month period” by an athlete in a registered testing pool shall be considered an anti-doping violation.
The Paralympic record holder is part of the IPC’s registered testing pool, which is a selected group of athletes that are required to make whereabouts filings in order to be located for out of competition testing.
It was agreed by the IPC that Ezuruike would receive an 18-month suspension, making him ineligibility to compete from August 17, 2020 to February 16, 2022.
“This represents the first sanction related to a whereabouts violation by the IPC,” a statement from the IPC read.
“The IPC reminds all athletes in their registered testing pool to remain vigilant when it comes to filing and updating their whereabouts.”

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has angrily faulted the claim by President Muhammadu Buhari that his government has created 10. 5 million jobs, saying that the government must be creating the jobs for ghosts.
Besides, the President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Quadri Olaleye, said in the Food, Beverages and Tobacco industry alone, Nigeria has lost more that 10 million workers. Olaleye, who summed up the position of labour on the President’s claim pointed out that “each time we heard that information we feel that they are creating jobs for ghosts because all of us can see in our environment the people that have benefited from those jobs.”
He also questioned the kind of jobs the government of President Buhari was laying claiming to, regretting that the kind of the much acclaimed 774,000 jobs in 774 local governments, as well as the N-power jobs that last for three months, six months and a year are short term jobs without security.
Speaking with Sunday Tribune on Saturday, the TUC president said: “As much as we are not trying to undermine their claim, on the other hand, we should look at a number of job loses while they were creating that one especially through their policies. It is not a rumour that forex is not available for genuine manufacturers to buy their raw materials and as a result of that, we can see that in the Food, Beverages and Tobacco industry alone, we have lost more than what government said they have created. So, what is the sense in you creating one while you are losing 10. Why not concentrate on not losing the one you have already.”
Olaleye added: “I hope part of what they claimed they have created is not the 774,000 jobs they said they created in 774 local governments. I hope they are not part of it because they are not jobs with security, they are short term jobs. When we are counting temporary jobs, with three months, six months and one year, it means there is no sincerity in whatever we are doing and governance is all about sincerity, ability to create hope, for people to know that the future is brighter.
“So, Federal Government should be very transparent in whatever steps they are taking in creating jobs. Since those people they created the jobs for are not ghosts, we should know them and know those who are engaged. Each time we heard that information we feel that they are creating jobs for ghosts. So, we encourage the government to be more proactive in whatever step they want to take in creating more jobs.”
While advising the government, he said, “we have advised them many times to look at their policies.
