The Oyo State Government through the ministry of Youth and Sports under the leadership of ‘Seun Fakorede unveiled the Sports Database portal, which is the first in the history of Nigeria and West Africa.
The laudable development was made known in a release signed by the Media Aide to the commissioner, Kazeem Olalekan Israel on Thursday.
The release read in part: “The database, according to the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Advocate for Grassroots Foundation who is also a member of the European Association for Sports Development, Bob Olukoya is a “public and private sector collaboration which would serve as validation for sports enthusiasts ranging from coaches to sports medics, sports lawyers, parents and sports journalists and also help create employment for close to 70 people who would be mobilised as data and field officers.”
Olukoya lauded the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makind, FNSE, for the attention being paid to the Sports sector and also noted that Oyo State is one of the few States in the country that does not have gatekeepers and rent-seekers that would have been asking for some sort of gratification before having access to a public office holder.
Fakorede while reacting to development said that the database is “a product of Public Private Collaboration between the Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Advocate for Grassroots Sports Foundation”.
Fakorede stressed that, the database is the beginning of many more opportunities in the State and he assured that more States will join once the portal, pacesettersgsd.com is floated.
The Commissioner made it known that “it will be a turnaround for sports sector not just in Oyo State but Nigeria as a whole.” In his words, such system as this database is needed to help with verifiable data.
He, however, said that such would not have been achievable if not for the relentless efforts of the visionary leader, Governor, Seyi Makinde who has been championing life-impacting projects across the length and breadth of the State.
