The Lagos State Police Command says the controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola better known as Portable has a case to answer following his viral video where he was boasting of being among the founders of notorious criminal gangs in Lagos, the Ajah boys and one Million boys, though the singer after receiving backlash made U-turn.
The viral video caught the attention of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, and this prompted the police boss on Monday to order the Lagos command of the force to investigate the singer over his alleged ties to One Million Boys, a notorious gang terrorising Lagos and parts of Ogun State.
Portable in the viral video said: “Open your ears and hear me, Have you heard about Ajah Boys, One Million Boys, I’m their founder. Go and ask Sammy larry,” he spoke in Yoruba in the video which he eventually deleted.
The singer however retracted his statement hours later, saying that he was referring to his fans as One Million Boys.
Following his outburst, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Monday, said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police had been asked to investigate Portable.
“Sequel to the trending video of one Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable where he claimed to have formed the One-Million Boys cult group terrorising some parts of Lagos State, the IGP has ordered CP Lagos to investigate the indicting statement and take necessary legal action. This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society,” the statement read.
When contacted on Thursday for an update on Portable’s case, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the command had yet to conclude “preliminary investigation.”
Hundeyin however said Portable has a case to answer when the investigation is concluded.
“We are still doing preliminary investigation and afterwards he will have to report himself (to the police) or we will get him arrested,” the PPRO told Daily Trust.
Since he came to the limelight in December 2021 following the release of his song, ‘Zazu Zeh’, in which he featured top artiste and record label boss, Olamide, hardly a month goes by without Portable not being in the news for negative reasons.
He was mocked on Monday for congratulating the Osun State governorship winner, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after campaigning for the All Progressives Congress.
