Despite the directive issued to commercial banks in the country by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to begin the issuance of redesigned naira notes, some banks are flagrantly flouting the directive by issuing out the old naira notes to customers.
A bank whose name wasn’t disclosed on Tuesday was caught issuing old Naira Notes To customers.
The bank in question, according to Daily Trust is said to be located in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
The CBN governor in a press conference earlier today insisted that the 100days window given to depositors is enough for them to deposit the old notes, insisting that, the 31st of January when the old notes won’t be regarded as legal tender remains sacrosanct.
There have been call from many stakeholders in the country for the extension of the 31st of January deadline, a call CBN Governor sees as a mere market cacophony.
