‘Go To Court’ – Unilorin SU Legislative Arm Tells Aggrieved Lawmakers After Suspension of Union President

The legislative arm of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Students’ Union President, has suspended President of the union, Mr Faji Tobiloba over alleged financial related offences.

According to campus based blog, The INFORMANT, The council accused Mr. Faji of breaching the provision of the union’s compendium, unlawful collection of funds and also to have committed a lot of offences within his stay as the President of the Union in the better by far varsity.

Honorable Justice Erinle Usman who presided over the plenary also told aggrieved colleagues who were not pleased with the suspension of the president to head to the court, the students’ Union tribunal to seek redress.

The letter of irregularities from the office of the Student Union President was submitted by the financial secretary and was read on the floor of the Senate by Clerk.

While the back and forth was going on said, Mr Faji staged a walk out from the floor of the house which is said to be described as the “Gross Misconduct” from his position.

The motion for the suspension of the president was deliberated by 41 members of the Students Senate Council at their emergency sitting on Saturday at the LT 2 along the Faculty Of Engineering in the University premises.

The council is expected to also resolved to forward its sitting resolution to the university management which maybe containing or stating Mr. Faji’s offence.

The suspension of the SU president is for 60 school working days.

The council also deliberated on the use of his personnel social media accounts/pages to pass information about the union and dissemination of information to students. They claimed that the office of the Students Union Public Relations Officer is designated for dissemination of information and every information are to channeled via the union social media accounts not an individual. But the no decision was made on this.

The sitting had in attendance 41 Senators, with 23 of them voting for the suspension of the union president while some of the Senators abstained from voting.

The Senate Council further conferred all powers, responsibilities and leadership role of the SU president, Mr Faji unto his Deputy, Mrs Arinola ( the vice president PS ) for the period of time during his suspension.
