Minister Receives Education Roadmap To Address Problems Facing Sector

The Federal Government through the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, has received the Education Roadmap to address the problems in the sector and pledged to ensure that basic, secondary and tertiary education certificates are valued.

The minister, who stated this while receiving the report on the Education Roadmap by the Committee members in Abuja, said they are also unhappy Nigerians because Nigeria has not been able to achieve what it is supposed to in the last three years.

“I am very angry about that. Some of us have benefitted from what is good and now we have been countering what is bad. Now that we have this opportunity there is no reason why we cannot translate this into something very positive to achieve what we have been crying and yarning for all these years,” he said.

The Minister decried the failure to achieve previous roadmaps, saying, “A lot of roadmaps has come and gone but this is not going to be the same, this is not the time to bury policies in files, it’s time to see all policies on ground.

“Days of talking is over we should now act and do what is right.”

While noting that they mean business, Prof Mamman said all the recommendations would be followed and where necessary, abridged.

Earlier, Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Nuhu Yakabu, said the committee was tasked with reviewing issues around quality of education, curriculum enhancements, education data, implementation of financial autonomy, quality assurance, skills and Enterprenurership development and early learning, among others.

Prof. Yakubu who is a former Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), said the report being submitted to the Minister is practical.

“This document will make a difference in the education sector, with the commitment we have seen, it will lead to you leaving your footprint and legacies in the sector,” he said.
