Over 1 Million Illegal Admissions Recorded in Nigerian Varsities in 3 Years – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that over 1million illegal admissions were discovered in Nigeria between 2017 to 2020.

This was disclosed by JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede during his recent public presentation which SaharaReporters saw in a video.

Professor Oloyede said the culprits were later pardoned by the Nigerian government via a special waiver granted to them by the former minister of education.

He said, “Corrupt admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria, you know what is happening in UNN. You know what happened at the University of Abuja. Even state universities, Kwara State University, Imo State University, Ambrose Alli University, You know what is happening now, with over 700 people that were admitted out of quota.

“And if you see how they are now embarrassing the university from one radio station to another. And do you know that from 2017 and 2020, over 1million candidates were admitted illegally? I stopped all of them. And you know the honourable minister said for the last time, we should register those people. That was a waiver and after 2020, anybody who did it, we should not allow it.”

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how Oloyede accused several Nigerian universities of offering admissions to students as young as ten years old.

Oloyede said the majority of Nigerian tertiary instructions had been violating laws regarding the age limit for potential admission seekers.
