The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife has reasurred the general public particularly the stakeholders of the varsity about the alleged poison of Opa dam which is the major source of water of the ivory tower.
The Management through its Registrar Magareth Omosule issued a statement on Monday that, the varsity has quickly swung to action in other to ensure the safety of the university community.
The excerpt of the statement signed by the Registrar as obtained by OAU Peeps reads ” The university was lucky that the pollution was at the lower level of the dam. This is not withstanding and considering the enormity and public heath implications of the action, a thorough assessment of the situation was undertaken. The pumping of water was only resumed after necessary and satisfactorily steps has been taken to confirm and ensure the safety of the discharge from our water-works. Members of the university are therefore enjoined to go to their normal activities without any fear of poisoning, molestation or attacked as the matter had already reported to the police and other law enforcement agencies” the statement reads.
