  • Yoruba Nation Rally: Mr Macaroni Donates N500,000 To Family Of SIain Teenager

Popular Nigerian celebrity, Mr Macaroni has donated a sum of N500k to the family of Jumoke Oyeleke, the teenager killed during the ‘Yoruba nation’ rally in Lagos.

On July 3, the police had shot into the air and fired teargas as they dispersed ‘Yoruba nation’ agitators at Gani Fawehinmi park.

Amid the ensuing melee, the 14-year-old was found dead in a pool of blood after a stray bullet from police gunshots was said to have hit her.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Mr Macaroni said he and his team visited the family of the deceased to commiserate with them.

The entertainer added that it was unfortunate that Jumoke was killed while striving to provide for her family’s needs.

He disclosed that he met the family “grievously mourning” the teenager, adding that the donation was to support them as they grapple with the unfortunate incident.

“The family are grievously mourning the death of Jumoke who was the breadwinner of the house. She worked as a sales attendant in a beverage store and used the little she earned to take care of her mother and 3 siblings,” he wrote.

“I visited their family house with Dabira and donated N500,000 to support the family hoping that fellow Nigerians would also kindly support them as they go through this unbearable loss.”

Mr Macaroni also expressed concern that since the incident happened nobody has taken responsibility for the young lady’s death.

He called on the public to also donate to support the family — via a crowdfunding account initiated in her honour.

“Before my visit, Dabira visited the place in which Jumoke and her family stayed and it is indeed not a pleasant place to live in. I plead that we do not let the family go back to living in that condition,” he added.

“Also, the Government or police are yet to take any responsibility and the family have been left to saddle all the financial burdens from mortuary bills, to autopsy, to bills for case treatment and the well-being of the entire family who have been abandoned.

“Please no amount is too small. Kindly donate and support the family with whatever amount you can.”

The police had earlier denied the culpability of its officers in the death of the girl while the state government ordered an investigation into the matter.

Mr Gora who is accused of stealing, issuance of dud cheque, and money laundering had allegedly obtained N525million from the Onijimo of Ijumo-Jesa, Kabiyesi Jacob Esan through one of his front companies, Gracious Environ Workers and Planners Nigeria Limited.

  • Nnamdi Kanu: IPOB Planning To Attack Kuje Prison, Security Sources Allege

Members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have been accused of plotting to attack Kuje Correctional Centre, security sources told PRNigeria.

Recall that the arrested leader of the group, Nnamdi Kanu, is presently cooling his heels at the facility of the Department of State Security Services, SSS, in Abuja after his repatriation into the country.

Mr Kanu had asked the Federal High Court to order his transfer to the Kuje Correctional Centre in the outskirt of Abuja.

The IPOB leader alleged ‘cruel’ treatment in the hands of SSS personnel at their detention facility in the agency’s Head Office in Abuja.

But a top-ranking officer of one of the security agencies told PRNigeria that the IPOB militants under the guise of Eastern Security Network are plotting to launch an attack on Kuje Prison if their leader is eventually moved there.

“We have uncovered the grand plan of a looming attack on Kuje Correctional Facility. This is sequel to Nnamdi Kanu’s plea to the Court to have him moved to the Kuje Prison from the detention facility of the DSS,” he said.

According to the security source, the IPOB fighters’ plan is to ensure they get Kanu out at whatever cost.

“We are aware of the motives of some of his supporters to intimidate and harass judicial and security officers to do their biddings through petitions, propaganda and blackmail so that he could be transferred to the prison which they could easily attack as they have done to many Police Stations and Correctional Facilities in the Southeast, in the last six months,” he added.

The officer noted that prominent individuals who are arrested and detained at the SSS facility are normally given superior treatment, compared to what they stand to get at police cells.

The officer cited series of attacks on security personnel and their facilities in the South-East by IPOB and ESN where many lives of innocent citizens and properties were lost.

“For instance in April this year, the police confirmed that IPOB/ESN militias were behind the attack on Imo Prison with sophisticated weapons such as General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs), AK49 rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) after razing the state Police Headquarters with vehicles parked in the premises.

“Nnamdi Kanu even had the gut to celebrate the destruction when he emphasised via his verified Twitter account that no soul deserves to be locked up in Nigeria’s prison. Imagine him now saying he prefered the same prison facility

“His lousy, callous and inciting threats were some of the pieces of evidence that our foreign partners considered in justifying the need for his repatriation to face his trial in Nigeria after jumping bail…

“Meanwhile, Justice Binta Nyako had revoked the bail granted him and also ordered his arrest anywhere in the world which prompted the action we took for his return to Nigeria.

“Has any country come out to support him or condemn the action we have taken?,” the officer asked.

  • FG Accuses Governors of Hijacking Process of VCs Appointment

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, has revealed how some state governors have hijacked the process of appointment of Vice-Chancellors for Federal Universities because of his lack of interest in the selection processes of new VCs for the Institutions.

He attributed to this vested interest as responsible for the unimaginable crises in the selection processes of many Federal Universities across the country, saying this meddlesomeness has led to unnecessary friction and tension in the Universities.

Adamu made the revelation, on Thursday, in Abuja during the inauguration of Chairmen and Governing Councils of 19 Federal Universities and 4 inter-University Centres as well as the public presentation of the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

He has accordingly ordered the Governing Councils to take charge and exercise their rights and not to allow outside influence in the selection process of new Vice-Chancellors of their respective institutions.

He said: “The Federal Ministry of Education under me has not in any way interfere with the selection of any Vice-Chancellor and I have not talked to any Chairman that I have any candidate.

“Unfortunately, I found out that because of my lack of interest or because I feel I should allow you (Council) to exercise your right, it is being hijacked by the governors. It is your right, don’t sell it to them. The law stipulated that and we are giving you full independence, don’t sell it to them.

“It is, therefore, essential that you familiarise yourselves with the specific law establishing your University or

Centre as well as with other relevant laws of the Federation.

“You should, in particular, be guided by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act of 1993 and its various amendments (of 2003 and 2012). You should adhere strictly, for example, to Section 2AAA of the 2003 Amendment Act which stipulates that “The Governing Council of a university shall be free in the discharge of its functions and exercise of its responsibilities for the good management, growth and development of the University.”

“Section 3 (4) of the same 2003 Amendment reposes on Council the power to appoint the Vice-Chancellor of the University. I urge you to exercise this power with utmost sense of responsibility and in the best interest of your Universities,” Adamu said.

The Minister noted that the reconstitution of the Governing Councils of the Federal Universities was coming at a propitious time, in view of the fact that the government recently constituted Visitation Panels to all Federal Universities.

He added that Panels have recently rounded off their assignments and would soon submit their Reports in two separate volumes, covering the periods: January 2011-December 2015, and January 2016 December 2020, respectively.

In accordance with the Panels’ Terms of Reference, each report would contain scrutiny of the state affairs of the University during the periods under review; its achievements and the challenges being faced; working environment (including relationships with and among staff and students); relations between Council and Management; how the University relates with its host communities, as well as with national and international bodies, among others.

He said as soon as the Visitation Reports were received, Government would study them and issue White Papers, the recommendations of which would guide Councils and Management on how to improve their systems and services by taking necessary steps to address the lapses and weaknesses identified by the Visitation Panels.

Adamu, however, warned the Council members that the president and visitor to the Federal Universities will not hesitate to dismiss any Council found to be corrupt or incompetent.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving their appointments, saying he had to literally beg some of them like former Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, and former Minister of National Planning, Senator Victor Udo Ndoma-Egba to accept the appointment.

Senator Ndoma-Egba, who spoke on behalf of Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of Governing Councils, assured the Minister that they would approach the assignment with all sense of responsibility and not disappoint the Federal Government for the confidence reposed on them.
