Edem Kokou Tengue, The Driving Force Behind Maritime Transport in Togo

Togo’s minister for Maritime Economy, Fisheries and Coastal Protection is on the move.

On 8 April 2024, he welcomed the Sierra Leonean minister to Lomé and facilitated a visit to the Port of Lomé.

Furthermore, the Adetikope Industrial Platform (Plate-forme industrielle d’Adetikope – PIA) continues to make its mark under his watch.

With Edem Kokou Tengue (44) at the helm, the PIA’s dry port is more determined than ever to position itself as a strategic hub for regional trade and logistics.During the recent visit of the Sierra Leonean minister to Lomé, the Togolese Minister for the Maritime Economy, Fisheries and Coastal Protection convinced his counterpart to strengthen ties between the two countries, especially in the strategic area of maritime transport.

With David Moinina Sengeh, as is the case with his many distinguished visitors, Edem Kokou Tengue proudly presented the Togolese jewel.

“Together, we are committed to working towards progress and the development of our actions towards new horizons of prosperity”, he told the local press. The Sierra Leonean minister was able to appreciate the innovations that have enabled Togo to remain at the forefront of the maritime sector in Africa. We have been informed that several major maritime transport companies have joined the dry port of Adetikope thanks to the efforts of Minister Edem Kokou Tengue.

The Swiss-Italian MSC, the Danish MAERSK, the French CMA CGM, the Singaporean PIL and the Japanese ONE all appear satisfied with the services provided by PIA.

“I am pleased to share with you the significant progress resulting from the follow-up meeting which I chaired. The discussions, which focused on the process of transferring containers in transit from the seaport to the PIA’s dry port, were carefully evaluated. While there is room for improvement, I am pleased to report that shipping giants such as MSC, MAERSK, CMA CGM, PIL and ONE, representing more than 90% of the market, have expressed their support for our dry port. One thing is certain: the significant influx of global maritime players should boost the activity of the PIA dry port, in line with Togo’s ambitions.
